CARLOS BLANCO AND OTHER PARTNERS LAUNCH THE GAME PLATFORM AKAMON.

Carlos Blanco, business angel and Grupo ITnet President, Vicenç Martí and other five Spanish partners have created Akamon, a traditional games online platform.

Akamon Entertainment Limited has 27 social and multiplayer games, including the classics games parchís, bingo, blackjack, chess or chinchón. Martí, a former executive of Custo, Vueling and Cirsa, will be Akamon CEO.

The portal, which operates in Spain under the brand Mundijuegos, and in Brazil under the name Ludijogos, last its entry in France, with the aim of positioning in Italy, Argentina and Mexico this year. The firm expects the Spanish market to represent less than 25% of total turnover.

To take part in the 27 Akamon’s games is free, basing its business model on advertising revenues and subscription payment of players. They pay €1.5 month to get some privileges in the game, such as rankings, avatars customizing or social and competitive experiences. It is estimated that only around 5% of players in social games pay to play.

The company, based in Malta, employs 35 workers spread across Malta, Valencia and Barcelona, and expects a turnover of between €7 and 9 million in 2012 and €48 million in three years.
